Beautiful Day in London Town

Today's post, I will admit is not as exciting as the previous, but I figured I should keep this going.

I awoke to very loud little children outside my window, as there is a catholic preschool behind the hostel. Stayed in a bit until about 11; I had to meet my group to complete a scavenger hunt near the West End (The theatre district) close to 12. There we came across some popular sites, Oxford circus being one of them--busy, busy, busy...I was nearly smooshed against the door in the tube. I saw lots and lots and lots of shops. Many interesting restaurants as well. But mostly shops. And Starbucks and McDonalds...always right next to each other. It was a strange reoccuring phenonomen. Anyway, we were forced into finding small engravings on buildings and pilths, which we found out were the lower part of the pilars. We even had to go into the National Portrait Gallery which was really quite stunning. By the end of the hunt we went through Trafalgar Square (where I could spot Big Ben and part of Parliament, sry no pics yet), Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus, and part of Covent Garden.

The day was quite beautiful. It was about 40-50 degrees and there was sun and partially blue skies...which I learned was quite unusual in London, at least in January. It only lasted for a couple hours though...when we had to head back to school to go over our scheduling, it started raining. Cold rain. Yuck. Anyway...I have found a new favorite sandwich to eat...cheese and onion. It is really quite good. I will try to make it when I am back at home. There are so many cool places I want to try. Ironically, there is a pub at the corner of my street, next to the nun's hostel, that I want to check out. I almost made the mistake of going in on a game day...definitely didn't want to look like a little American tourist then----apparantly is was a BIG game. I'll have to make some English friends.

The nunery is really turning out to be quite pleasant. Every night it seems I am meeting new girls for dinner. And all from different parts of the world. I met a vietnamese women training for Montosouri, German learning to become a teacher...which is WAY more complex to do than over in America, an Indian Woman who is applying to a think tank in India, a girl from Singapore that is training to be a OB/GYN, the list goes on an on. They are all very nice, and all MUCH older than me. I am one of the youngest there. It is funny, they all ask me about American politics and Obama...we really are having interesting conversations.

Apparantly Jules was right about Hampstead being a very nice area. Someone told me they spotted Hugh Laurie last winter in Hampstead Heath. This will be my goal from now on until summer--spotting him, lol...

  1. Although you'll settle for Hugh Laurie, I think you should also aspire to see Colin Firth(marry him if you wish) and Hugh Grant. Throw in a few princes and you've got yourself a deal!!
